She doesn’t directly acknowledge the drama in the text as the first printing of her book was before the release of Into Thin Air, but there is some clear defense of Boukreev being misunderstood for cultural reasons in an afterword written for the American printing after Boukreev’s death. For anyone else, not so much. I would read it again without thinking, it is very inspiring to find stories of mountaineering from the perspective of women.


That being said, I did like reading it once I accepted it as her journal even though kramauer doesn’t stand up to other books highlighting the climb of Mount Everest.
